1,200 delegates of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) will elect the party president in an election set for November 24 at Mandela National Stadium Namboole.

FDC party electoral chief, Dan Mugarura told journalists yesterday at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi that the party had set aside UgShs 30 million to accomodate all delegates from upcountry for the election set for November 24 in which over 1,209 voters would participate.

Mugarura said at the press briefing that the opposition party had listed over 1,200 voters for the five candidates, who include incumbent party president Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, Mr. Mubarak Munyagwa, Mr. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Mr. Daniel Matsiko, and Mr. Moses Byamugisha.

Asked why Mr. Munyagwa was still listed as a candidate yet he pulled out of the race, the party electoral body head said Munyagwa had not officially indicated his exit and was given up to Thursday to do so in writing.

Mugarura said as a step to ensure free and fair election, all candidates’ agents had yesterday received and signed the voters register.

Candidates have two weeks left to garner support.
